{"id":61,"date":"2006-09-13T14:30:10","date_gmt":"2006-09-13T14:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ivyrun.com\/wordpress\/?p=61"},"modified":"2006-09-13T14:30:10","modified_gmt":"2006-09-13T14:30:10","slug":"garageband-screencast-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ivyrun.com\/inanotherplace\/?p=61","title":{"rendered":"GarageBand Screencast Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I posted about <a href=\"http:\/\/witchyrichy.wordpress.com\/2006\/09\/09\/screencasts\/\" target=\"_blank\">my screencasting project<\/a> that I started last week.<\/p>\n<p>I am ready to declare a final version:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simplykaren.org\/videos\/gbscreencast.mov\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.simplykaren.org\/videos\/gbscreencast.mov<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is just over 9 megs including the audio, which I managed to get down to 3 megs itself.<\/p>\n<p>The final format for the movie is as follows: H.264, 640X480, with medium-quality AAC<\/p>\n<p>It seems one problem is that SnapZ creates Apple Animation files that get blurry when they are read into iMovie.\u00a0 Couldn&#8217;t figure out a way to change the setting in SnapZ.\u00a0 Final Cut Pro is probably the answer here as iMovie only imports in certain formats.<\/p>\n<p>And that problem will be solved when my new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/macpro\/\" target=\"_blank\">MacPro<\/a> arrives!<\/p>\n<p>So, let&#8217;s reflect here:<\/p>\n<p>What have I learned?\u00a0 How to make a small but high quality screencast<\/p>\n<p>How did I learn it?\u00a0 Trial and error, some reading, some discussion (Troy was the one who told me that iMovie doesn&#8217;t import every file format.)<\/p>\n<p>How could I have learned it better?\u00a0 I could have actually read all the stuff that&#8217;s out there about creating screencasts (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.oreillynet.com\/pub\/a\/oreilly\/digitalmedia\/2005\/11\/16\/what-is-screencasting.html?page=3#heading5\" target=\"_blank\">What is Screencasting?<\/a> from O&#8217;Reilly is particulary detailed) but then the screencast wouldn&#8217;t be done, would it?\u00a0 I did do a little reading about codecs and had experimented with mpeg-4 over the summer so decided to try out H.264.<\/p>\n<p>How could I use what I&#8217;ve learned to benefit others?\u00a0 I am going to be creating a screencast of my Moodle site for the <a href=\"http:\/\/k12onlineconference.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">K12 Online Conference<\/a> in October so my skills will be used to teach about another topic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I posted about my screencasting project that I started last week.
