Lesson Plan-4th Grade Science Weather

SOL 4.6: The student will investigate and understand how weather conditions and phenomena occur and can be predicted. Key concepts include weather factors (temperature, air pressure, fronts, formation and type of clouds, and storms); and meteorological tools (barometer, hygrometer, anemometer, rain gauge, and thermometer).

Objectives for Today’s Class:
Given pictures of clouds or descriptions of the weather, the student will differentiate between cloud types (cirrus, stratus, cumulus, and cumulo-nimbus clouds) and associated weather.

Activities:

• Teacher will begin class by showing pictures of different kinds of clouds and asking students to identify them.
• Students will read pages 45-47 of textbook and complete worksheet about different kinds of clouds.
• Students who finish will work on crossword puzzle that reviews types of clouds as well as other weather concepts covered in previous classes.

Assessment:
Teacher will review worksheet with students.

Homework: Answer questions 1-5 on page 48 in textbook. Complete crossword puzzle if not completed in class.
