Checking Strategies Activity

Let's review Mrs. Allen's original lesson plan. As you look at her strategies, you should check some of the resources from the Virginia Department of Education:

Sample Scope and Sequence Guide (pdf)
Teacher Resource Guide (pdf)
Curriculum Framework (pdf)

What do you think about Mrs. Allen's strategies? What do they require the student to do? In the text box below, describe what students will be doing in this classroom.

Now make some suggestions to Mrs. Allen for strategies that match the cognitive level of her objectives. We've chosen three different objectives so you can practice aligning activities with objectives. Remember, an appropriate strategy has the students doing what the objective says they will be able to do.

OBJECTIVE: Students will analyze the symbols that Hawthorne used, including the Scarlet A, the meteor, the rose bush, and Pearl.

OBJECTIVE: Students will analyze the motifs that Hawthorne used, including day versus night, civilization versus wilderness, and evocative names.

OBJECTIVE: Students will describe the characteristics of Romanticism and supply examples of these characteristics that are found in The Scarlet Letter.

How did you do? This lesson plan is really coming together. The next step is to look at Assessments.
