Checking Objectives Activity

For this activity, you will review Mrs. Allen's objectives and record your observations about these objectives. As you work, you should check some of the resources from the Virginia Department of Education:

Sample Scope and Sequence Guide (pdf)
Teacher Resource Guide (pdf)
Curriculum Framework (pdf)

Here are the objectives from Mrs. Allen's lesson plan:

Objectives-

  1. Students will recall the names of specific authors and the names of their most important works.
  2. Students will list the qualities that distinguish the Romantic Period from preceding eras.

What is the the cognitive level of these objectives? (Click here to learn more about Bloom's taxonomy and cognitive levels.)

Now, review the SOL on which her objectives were based.

Sol- 11.3 The student will read and analyze relationships among American literature, history, and culture.

What is the cognitive level suggested by this SOL?

Use the text box below to help Mrs. Allen write new objectives. Go to the Curriculum Framework or Teacher Resource Guide for SOL 11.3 and use the bulleted essential elements to create instructional objectives. Click the Check button to see how the experts converted some bulleted statements to actual objectives.

How did you do? Do your objectives align with the SOL?

The next step is to look at the Strategies.
